(CNN) — Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have arrested nearly 400 illegal immigrants — including 347 with prior criminal convictions — over a three-day operation throughout the Midwest, the agency announced Friday.
The arrests in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Kansas, Missouri, Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska were part of the agency’s “Cross Check” operations that began in 2009 and are being held across the country.

(CNN) — The bodies of two children trapped inside a car submerged in the Edisto River in South Carolina have been recovered, and their mother has been arrested, authorities said Monday.
State troopers responded to a report of a car accident early Monday and found a Chrysler sedan in the water near a boat landing in Orangeburg County. Divers discovered the bodies of the two boys, ages 1 and 2, which were taken from the car and sent to the county coroner for autopsies, authorities said.

(CNN) — A man and woman suspected of kidnapping a 5-year-old boy from Missouri were arrested Tuesday afternoon in Phoenix, Arizona, an FBI spokesman said.
The boy — Devon Denman — was found unharmed Monday in the back seat of a stolen vehicle after a high-speed police pursuit in New Mexico ended with Elizabeth Denman and Mark Cochran fleeing when the vehicle’s tires were punctured by police stop sticks, according to Lt. Eric Garcia of the New Mexico State Police.

(CNN) — The U.S. is urging Pyongyang to release an American held captive after reports that the man attempted suicide in a North Korean prison.
Swedish diplomats met with Aijalon Mahli Gomes, a U.S. State Department official confirmed Friday. He declined to release details about the 31-year-old’s condition, citing respect for the family’s privacy.

(CNN) — Authorities in California said Wednesday they have arrested a suspect in the Grim Sleeper serial killer case and will charge him with 10 counts of murder.
Lonnie David Franklin Jr., 57, faces an additional count of attempted murder, Capt. Kevin McClure with the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Franklin will arraigned in court Thursday morning, McClure said.

LOS ANGELES — Leslie Van Houten, the one-time Charles Manson follower long seen as the most likely of his ex-acolytes to win freedom someday, faces her 19th parole hearing on Tuesday with a new lawyer and new case law which may give her the best chance yet for release.
Even if there is a finding of suitability for parole at the hearing, freedom would not be immediate. The entire state parole board would review the decision within 120 days and it would then be submitted to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for a final ruling.

Washington (CNN) — Less than a week after Russian President Dmitry Medvedev visited the United States, the Justice Department announced Monday that 10 people were arrested on charges of being Russian agents involved in a long-term mission in the country. Another suspect was still being sought.
Five of the arrested suspects appeared in a New York courtroom Monday. Four of the five, including a longtime U.S.-based columnist for the Spanish-language “El Diario” newspaper, were advised of their rights and ordered held due to flight risk, with their next hearing scheduled for July 1.

SARGODHA, Pakistan – A Pakistani court on Thursday convicted five Americans on terror charges and sentenced each to at least 10 years in prison, a prosecutor said.
They were accused of contacting militants in Pakistan over the Internet and plotting terrorist attacks.
Rana Bakhtiar made the announcement Thursday in the Punjab town of Sargodha. He said the men have the right to appeal.

VIENNA, N.Y. – A young father with a long criminal history, including assault charges, fatally shot his 3-month-old son in front of state troopers Tuesday morning, then was shot and critically wounded by officers.
Adam Theall, 21, was outside the home in rural Oneida County in upstate New York when troopers arrived after getting 911 calls around 9:30 a.m. that he had threatened to kill the child.

New York (CNN) — Not everyone expects a response when they write a letter to the president of the United States. But Caroline Jamieson got much more than she expected when her husband ended up in jail and afraid he would be deported.
Jamieson, vice president of marketing at a new-media advertising company, wrote President Barack Obama in January because her husband, Hervé Fonkou Takoulo, was facing deportation to his native Cameroon. Takoulo failed in a bid before political asylum almost a decade ago, and a judge issued a deportation order after they were married.

POMONA, Calif. – Police have arrested a California man suspected of firing at a crowd and killing a 3-year-old boy who was celebrating his birthday.
Pomona Police said Monday that they arrested Pablo Adame of La Verne last week after the 26-year-old was released from prison in an unrelated domestic violence case.

(CNN) — A man who was arrested at an airport in Pakistan with shoes that contained batteries, a circuit board and an on/off switch said Monday that he did not know the materials were in his shoes.
Faiz Mohammed said he had worn the same shoes while traveling from Muscat, Oman, where he worked as a construction supervisor, to Karachi, Pakistan, in February.
Investigators in Karachi arrested Mohammed on Sunday after a scanner sounded an alarm as he prepared to board a Thai Airways flight to Muscat. They said they did not find explosives.
