JACKSON, Mich. — A Michigan teen made a gristly discovery after biting into an Arby’s junior roast beef sandwich.

Ryan Hart said he had nearly polished off his sandwich last Friday when he bit into something tough to chew that tasted like rubber, so he spit it out.

Turns out it tasted like finger. The fleshy pad of an unfortunate employee’s finger, apparently.

“I was like, ‘That (has) to be a finger,’” Hart, 14, told the Jackson Citizen Patriot on Wednesday. “I was about to puke. … It was just nasty.”

(CBS/AP) SHELBYVILLE, Ind. – A 6-year-old kindergartner was arrested after police say he kicked his Indiana school principal.

According to CBS Cleveland, Shelbyville police were called to Hendricks Elementary School last week after the child physically assaulted principal Pat Lumbley.

According to a police report obtained by CBS Cleveland, the boy also threatened to kill school officials. Police say when they arrived, the child was kicking and screaming on the floor. He was then taken into custody .

Assistant principal Jessica Poe led the student to a police car where an officer placed him in the back seat, buckled him in and drove him to the police department, the report said. He was not handcuffed.

(CBS News) DECATUR, Ill. – Billionaire Warren Buffett is well known for his charity work and so is his son Howard. On Thursday, Howard Buffett announced a new partnership to feed the needy with the food processing giant Archer Daniels Midland and Feeding America, a national hunger charity.

Howard Buffett owns a 3,000-acre farm in Decatur, Illinois. Atop his tractor, he can see America’s “bounty.” But not far from here, he sees folks with almost nothing.

“You’re from one of the wealthiest families in America,” Doane said to Buffett. “Do you really see [and] understand hunger?”

“No. I wouldn’t understand hunger,” responded Buffett, “because my kids have never been hungry. I’ve never put them to bed hungry. I’ve never been hungry. What I can understand is the humiliation, the frustration, even the embarrassment of some people who have to walk into a food bank for the first time and ask for help.”

Two years ago Aaron and Debbie Knobloch learned that their baby daughter Alida was suffering from a rare lung disease and that she would need a portable oxygen tank to help her breathe. The good news was that the oxygen tank would make their little girl healthy. The bad news was that she’d have to be tethered to the 6-pound tank most of the time.

The Knoblochs struggled to find a way to give Alida a normal life. Aaron built a walker with a pocket for the oxygen tank so she wouldn’t always have to be tied to one of her parents. But as the little girl grew older – and more mobile – the walker wasn’t enough.

HOPE MILLS, N.C. – A Green Beret recently home from Afghanistan died trying to rescue his two young daughters from their burning home near Fort Bragg in North Carolina early Tuesday. The girls were also killed in the blaze.

Edward Cantrell and his wife escaped from the 2 a.m. blaze by jumping from the home’s second floor, the Cumberland County sheriff’s office said. Cantrell then wrapped himself in a blanket and re-entered the burning home in Hope Mills, about 10 miles from the Army base that is home to the Green Berets and other Special Forces units, sheriff’s spokeswoman Debbie Tanna said.

Cantrell, 36, was trying to reach 6-year-old Isabella and 4-year-old Natalia, who were trapped in second-floor bedrooms, Tanna said.
“He never made it back out,” Tanna said. Firefighters found their bodies inside the home, Tanna said.

A 3-year-old with curious eating habits is recovering after swallowing 37 high-powered magnets. KPTV reports that after she ate them, the magnets formed a dangerous ring inside Payton Bushnell’s digestive track, snapping her intestines together and ripping holes in both her small intestine and stomach.

“They saw a circle had formed in her stomach, and they thought she swallowed a bracelet,” Payton’s mother, Kelli Bushnell, told the station.

A recent report from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says there have been 22 cases of children swallowing magnets since 2009. And the New York Times reported that while swallowing a single magnet rarely poses problems, swallowing even just two can prove fatal. The Canadian government explains on one of its health information sites that once someone has swallowed more than one magnet, the magnets can literally travel through the intestines until they link up. Along the way, they can create dangerous blockages and even slowly tear through the intestinal walls themselves.
