(Reuters) – Ford Motor Co has recalled nearly 129,000 of its Mercury Milan and top-selling Ford Fusion in the United States because their 17-inch steel wheels may fall off, U.S. safety regulators said on Friday.

In some vehicles from model years 2010 and 2011, the wheel studs may fracture and make the car shake. If ignored, the wheels may fall off a moving car, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a posting on its website.

Ford, the No. 2 U.S. automaker, said the issue may stem from wheel mounting pads or rear brake discs that have been incorrectly built and cannot support the wheel.

NEW YORK — It’s a recipe for mass power outages: up to 15 inches of snow forecast in parts of the Northeast on Saturday — much of it landing on trees that have yet to shed their leaves in fall.

“We’re expecting this very heavy and wet snow, and a lot of it,” Chris Warren, a Weather Channel meteorologist, told NBC News. “And when it lands on the leaves it weighs down the branches, you get the branches snapping, falling on power lines. When it’s all said and done by Sunday millions of people could be in the dark.”

MONROE, Mich. — A blast that turned a vehicle along a Michigan street into a blackened shell and seriously injured an attorney and his two sons was the result of a car bomb, police said Wednesday.

Emergency responders rushed to the site of the Tuesday evening explosion near a highway underpass in Monroe, about 35 miles southwest of Detroit, the Monroe Police Department said. The vehicle’s three occupants were taken to St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio, about 20 miles south of Monroe. They were listed in serious condition Wednesday.

(CNN) — A Nevada city councilwoman who faced possible sanctions over a travel expense voucher and public comments was found dead with her husband Tuesday, hours before a city council meeting that had the issues involving her on its agenda, officials said.

Donna Fairchild and Bill Fairchild were found in a residence, according to a press statement from the city of Mesquite, Nevada, on Interstate 15 near the border with Arizona. Police got a call from the residence at 4:15 a.m., the city said.

(CNN) — When she saw a Dayton, Ohio, police officer tangled up with a man, Angela Pierce could have kept on driving. Instead, she got out of the car to team up with the officer and join the fight.

While the danger was real — especially with the suspect in arm’s reach of the officer’s gun — Pierce told HLN’s Jane Velez-Mitchell that her thought process Saturday night was simple: The police officer needed help, and she was in a position to give it.

The person that puts his or hers turn signal on when they are turning in to the place they want to be has no thought about the person behind them. They have to try to go out and around them or slam on the brakes.

The person that has the cell phone to there ear and don’t know where they are going or what just past in front of them.

How about the person that is in a big hurry they are just get around you and when they get to the stop light they are just one or two cars ahead of you.

The person that does not stop at the stop sign and don’t even care that they may of hit someone.

When you’re on the free way and trying to merge on the cars that can get over will not get over. Then you’re driving and want to pass the slower car and a car in the other lane is running the same speed as the car in front of you and will not get over in the slow lane.

These are most of the things that tick me off. There are a lot more drivers out there doing things they should not be doing.
If people just took a little more time to do the things they were shown how to do right,the world might be a little safer on the roads.

Nissan said Thursday it is recalling 2.14 million vehicles in the U.S., Japan, Europe and Asia for an ignition problem that may stall engines.

No accidents have been reported that are suspected of being related to the defect, according to Yokohama-based Nissan Motor Co.

A problem was found in an ignition-system part called the relay for vehicles produced from 2003 through 2006, including small cars like the March, Micra, Cube and Note, and about a dozen other models, such as the Tiida sedan, Titan pickup and Infiniti QX56 luxury model.

TOKYO — Toyota Motor Corp. said Thursday it was recalling 1.53 million Lexus, Avalon and other models, mostly in the U.S. and Japan, for brake fluid and fuel pump problems.

The world’s biggest auto-maker will call back about 740,000 cars in the U.S. for repairs and 599,000 in Japan. The remainder are in Europe and other markets around the world.

Toyota has already recalled more than 10 million vehicles in the past year, mostly for unintended acceleration, denting its reputation for quality and attracting intense scrutiny from U.S. safety regulators.

New York (CNN) — Authorities reopened the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge, formerly known as Triborough Bridge, early Thursday morning after determining that a moving truck abandoned on it did not pose a threat.

Police closed off the bridge for about two and a half hours in both directions after being made aware of the incident around 10 p.m. Wednesday.
