Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) — More than two dozen American troops are believed to have died in a deadly Chinook helicopter crash in eastern Afghanistan overnight, a U.S. military official told CNN on Saturday.

Among those killed were a mix of special forces from different services, the official said. If the numbers are confirmed, the incident would be the most deadly for coalition forces in the Afghan war, according to a CNN count of international troop deaths.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai issued a statement saying as many as 31 U.S. special forces and seven Afghans were killed and offered “deep regret” to U.S. President Barack Obama.

Orlando (CNN) — Casey Anthony only has to stay in jail six more days to fulfill the sentence a judge gave her Thursday on convictions for lying to authorities.

Judge Belvin Perry sentenced Anthony to four years in jail — one year for each of her four convictions of lying to police — but with credit for the approximately three years already served and good behavior, her release date was set for next Wednesday, July 13, a court spokeswoman said Thursday.

(CNN) — A nuclear power plant in Nebraska, which is being threatened by rising floodwaters, switched to back-up generators for a time after a water-filled berm protecting the site collapsed Sunday, a statement from the plant said.

“As a precaution, per plant procedure, the operators started the diesel generators and temporarily disconnected from off-site power,” the statement by Omaha Public Power District (OPPD), which owns the Fort Calhoun plant, said. “Plant operators later reconnected to off-site power once all safety checks had been completed.”

NASA hopes to try again Monday for one of the highest-profile space shuttle launches, after delaying the mission Friday due to a problem with a heater in one of Endeavour’s auxiliary power units.

The countdown was called off even as the shuttle’s six-man crew was heading for Launch Pad 39A. Liftoff would be delayed for at least three days, and most likely longer, while engineers looked into the problem, NASA launch director Mike Leinbach said.

Washington (CNN) — Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta, the nation’s the only living Medal of Honor recipient for the current wars, is leaving the U.S. Army and will focus on his education, a spokesman said.

Giunta will leave in mid-June of this year. He and his wife are planning to move to Fort Collins, Colorado, where he will continue his education using the GI Bill, said Todd Oliver, a spokesman for Giunta’s unit in Italy.

DALLAS — Hard ice and heavy snow slid off Cowboys Stadium’s domed roof Friday, injuring six workers hired to prepare the venue for the Super Bowl, authorities said. The accident followed a storm that dumped 5 inches of snow on Dallas roads and runways, complicating Super Bowl travel plans.

One man was struck in the head and another was hit in the shoulder, said Arlington Fire Department spokesman Pete Arevalo. They were in stable condition Friday afternoon. The other four injuries were considered minor. Initial reports conflicted on the number of injured and the severity of the injuries.
