NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — Johnson and Johnson unit DePuy Orthopaedics, already in hot water with government regulators, issued a global recall Thursday of two hip aid systems after finding that more people than expected suffered pain which required additional surgery.
DePuy, which has sold about 93,000 units of its ASR XL Acetabular System and the ASR Hip Resurfacing System, said recent data received by the company showed an increase in the number of people who have had a second hip replacement surgery, also called a “revision surgery.”

(CNN) — Zemco Industries in Buffalo, New York, has recalled approximately 380,000 pounds of deli meat that may be contaminated with bacteria that can cause a potentially fatal disease, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Monday.
The products were distributed to Wal-Marts nationwide, according to the USDA’s website.
The meats may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which was discovered in a retail sample collected by inspectors in Georgia. The USDA has received no reports of illnesses associated with the meats.
Upon learning of the voluntary recall, Wal-Mart immediately told its stores to remove the meat from their shelves, the company said in a statement.

(CNN) — The number of eggs recalled in a nationwide salmonella scare has grown to more than half a billion.
Iowa egg producer Hillandale Farms of Iowa is voluntarily recalling some 170.4 million eggs distributed to stores and companies that service, or are located in, 14 states, a spokeswoman at the Egg Safety Center said on Friday.
The Hillandale eggs were distributed under the Hillandale Farms, Sunny Farms, and Sunny Meadow brand names in six-egg cartons, dozen-egg cartons, 18-egg cartons, 30-egg packages, and five-dozen-egg cases, the website for the Egg Safety Center said.

Hundreds of people have been sickened in a salmonella outbreak linked to eggs in four states and possibly more, health officials said Wednesday as a company dramatically expanded a recall to 380 million eggs.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is working with state health departments to investigate the illnesses. No deaths have been reported, said Dr. Christopher Braden, a CDC epidemiologist involved in the investigation.
Initially, 228 million eggs, or the equivalent of 19 million dozen-egg cartons, were recalled by the company Wright County Egg of Galt, Iowa. But that number was increased to nearly 32 million dozen-egg cartons.

(CNN) — Campbell Soup Co. is recalling nearly 15 million pounds of canned SpaghettiOs with meatballs because of possible under-processing, the U.S. agriculture department said.
The recall includes 14.75-ounce cans with a use-by date between June 2010 and December 2011 of three varieties of the product: “SpaghettiOs with Meatballs,” “SpaghettiOs A to Z with Meatballs” and “SpaghettiOs Fun Shapes with Meatballs (Cars).”

LOS ANGELES – McDonald’s is recalling 12 million drinking glasses it is selling to promote the new “Shrek” movie because painted designs on the cheap collectibles contain the toxic metal cadmium.
The fast food chain said early Friday that it wants customers to stop using the 16-ounce glasses, which have been sold for about $2 each and were available in four designs depicting the main characters from the animated movie.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — Step2 Co. is recalling 2.5 million Push Around and Whisper Ride model ride-on toys because they pose a serious injury risk to young children, a government agency said Wednesday.
Step2 disclosed 28 reports of the buggy’s handle detaching, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said in a statement. The cause of the detachment is linked to a pin attached to the handle, which loosens too easily.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — A scathing report released Tuesday by the Food and Drug Administration slammed conditions at the factory that produced the children’s Tylenol, Motrin, Benadryl and other over-the-counter drugs that were recalled over the weekend.
The 17-page FDA inspection report conducted in late April detailed quality and security lapses at the Fort Washington, PA-based facility, which is owned by Johnson & Johnson’s (JNJ, Fortune 500) McNeil PPC drug manufacturing division. The agency said it is considering a wide range of actions including possible criminal penalties.

(CNN) — A voluntary recall has been issued for more than 40 over-the-counter drugs for children, including Tylenol and Motrin, because they don’t meet quality standards.
“This recall is not being undertaken on the basis of adverse medical events,” McNeil Consumer Healthcare said in a statement Friday. “However, as a precautionary measure, parents and caregivers should not administer these products to their children.”

New York (CNNMoney.com) — Toyota announced Wednesday night that it is adding another 1.1 million vehicles to an an earlier 4.2 million vehicle recall originally announced in November.
The vehicles are being recalled to fix a problem in which the gas pedal can become caught on the edge of the removable floormat, causing the vehicle to accelerate uncontrollably.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — About 635,000 cribs sold at major discounters nationwide have been recalled by Dorel Asia SRL for strangulation and suffocation hazards that killed one child and injured 10 others, the government said Tuesday.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said that the hardware holding up the side of the crib can fail, causing the drop side of the crib to detach, which could trap and suffocate a child.
